Biography

David was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Elon College, concentrating his studies in the areas of political science and public administration.   After graduation from Elon, David attended Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he earned his law degree.  While attending law school, he earned a Master's of Business Administration from Stetson University School of Business Administration. 

Following his admission to the Florida Bar Association, David served the citizens of the state of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Tampa.  While working as a prosecutor, he prosecuted crimes ranging for criminal traffic infractions to first-degree felonies.  David has tried over 65 jury trials to verdict as a prosecutor. 

In 2002, David left the State Attorney's office and began representing policyholders through out the state of Florida in insurance disputes. Since that time, David has represented insured individuals, partnerships, and corporations that have been denied insurance proceeds or otherwise mistreated by their insurance carriers in the southeastern United States and beyond.  David has been involved in a wide spectrum of contractual and extra contractual matters including property losses, casualty claims, fire and theft losses, construction defect allegations, complex insurance coverage matters, bad faith and unfair claims handling violations, appraisals, mediations and other first party insurance issues.

In 2004, together with Matt Danahy, David formed the firm of Danahy & Murray, P.A. The firm represents insured’s throughout Florida in first party insurance claims against their insurance companies. These include claims resulting from property damage, health, life and disability claims, denials of coverage and other types of first party insurance and disputes. David also handles claims involving unfair claims handling practices (“bad faith”).

David is admitted to the Florida Bar.  He is also admitted to practice in all Federal Courts in the state of Florida, including the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern District and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. 

David's most recent achievement includes membership in The Million Dollar Advocates Forum - www.MillionDollarAdvocates.com (membership in which is limited to attorneys who have won cases in excess of a million dollars). David has also been honored as a "Rising Star" in the 2009 and 2012 editions of Florida Super Lawyer - www.superlawyers.com/florida. Rising Stars are selected by Florida Super Lawyers through a nomination process, peer evaluation and internal research conducted by Law & Politics, and represents only 2.5 percent of Florida's attorneys.

David has given numerous lectures on insurance and litigation issues involving first party insurance claims.  In addition, he has made media appearances where he has discussed first party insurance claims. He has also been approved to be an Instructor and Provider by the Florida Department of Financial Services for the following CLE courses: Adjuster Law & Policy and Adjuster Ethics. 

David is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Florida Justice Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters, and the Florida Windstorm Insurance Network.  Additionally, David is working toward obtaining the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. 

David lives in the Hyde Park district of South Tampa with his wife Kim who is an attorney and their son, Finton.
